When exactly does the Fill or Kill timer start?

Postby lNINl » Sun Mar 06, 2016 1:12 pm

Hi,
When exactly does the Fill or Kill timer start?
Specifically in the scenario when BA doesn't receive a response to a bet placement for say 20 seconds because the internet connection stopped right after placing a bet. Does the Fill or Kill timer start when the request is sent to betfair or does it start when the response is finally received after 20 seconds (even though the bet was presumably placed a while before this) ?

Thanks

You'd need Gary to confirm the exact details but at an educated guess i'd say any fill/kill timer would start from when the program has received the bet response, and bet reference, from Betfair.

You can't cancel single bets without the bet reference which only gets returned from a successful placebet request, Obviously it's possible you could try and prempt receiving a bet reference and start the timer from bet submission but it would get overcomplicated with all the error trapping you'd need to input and various in play delays. It'd make much more sense to start the timer when the bet reference has been confirmed.

The bet response does also give the time the bet was matched and I've no idea if BA's timer uses the actual bet taken time or time the bet reference was received by BA. If pushed I'd say it uses the time the bet reference is returned to BA not the actual bet timestamp.

Yeah, i guess it would only make sense to start the timer after the bet reference has been received.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
