Cancel bets on level profit inconsistent?

Postby greenfingers » Sat Mar 27, 2010 5:23 pm

Hi,

Since earlier this week I've been having an occasional problem with using the level profit and alt level profit in the grid interface whereby it appears not to do anything. It think it has only occured when I have an unmatched order in the market from a previous attempt to green/red-up, but I'm not sure.

I have "Cancel bets on level profit" selected in preferences. Looking at the transaction log, some of the green-up transactions have an API response saying that the exposure is too great or words to that effect. But this shouldn't be possible as any unmatched orders should be cancelled before trying to level up. As leveling can only reduce liability it shouldn't be stopped by an exposure issue I would have thought?

Maybe I've pressed it more than once? For in-running use, because of the time delay imposed by betfair, it would be great to have some feedback from the program that the level-up button has been succesfully pushed - either an audio bleep or the button changing colour perhaps. Or the order showing up in bets manager as something in progress.

If there is an API glitch could it be possible that the cancel bet order isn't processed before the level profit order is received?

I am using the beta version, currently at version 66f. As no-one else has posted about this issue and the recent updates to the beta version have nothing to do with this area of the program I'm wondering if there is something happening on my PC to cause this, rather than it being a bug. :?:

It makes the cancel bets request in parallel to the bet placement so it just depends on which request gets a response first. To be honest I hadn't considered the exposure implication. I will change it to wait for the cancel request to complete before placing the bet in the next release.

Version 1.1.0.66g Beta should solve this problem.

Thanks Gary. Whilst I'm glad that I wasn't imagining this issue I wonder why I've not noticed it before (although I've had a lot of redding-up recently, may be why! ).

I didn't trade yesterday so I haven't tried the update yet, but just to clarify, will the time taken to green-up IR on the horses now be equal to one refresh (whatever that is set to) plus the one-second IR delay?

It means that as soon as you click to green up it will make the cancel request which takes around 100ms, possibly faster depending on your connection. It will then immediately place the green up bet so assuming the bet placement also takes 100ms the total time will be around 1200ms.

I'm still having an issue with pressing the green up twice by accident occasionally, sometimes 1 second can seem a long time in-running! I suppose it is actually 1 second plus the time for the bets to be updated in the bets manager / level profit column before it is confirmed (plus time for me to notice it!). Would it be possible to have some visual feedback when level profit / alt level profit is pressed or is currently processing, please?

I'll add it to the list of suggestions.

Hi All, could I add to this conversation please.

I also use the “cancel when level profit” but there is something a little frustrating about it.

When you have verify bets ticked the “cancel when level profit” will cancel when clicking the level/alt level profit but before you submit it. Is there a reason it has to be that way round rather than just cancelling when/if the new bet needs to be submitted.

No it doesn't have to be that way. I will change it.

Sorry, I should have realised earlier. When I fixed Greenfingers' problem a side effect was that it also fixed your problem. You don't appear to be using the latest Beta version. Please upgrade to 1.1.0.66l using the following link and let me know if it fixes your problem.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
