Starting Price in Soccer!!!

Postby negapo » Mon Mar 17, 2014 11:42 am

Hi to all. Today i saw that betfair has introduced the Starting Price in some soccer matches. I know it's used in horses for a long time but i have never dig into it because i don't play the horses.

What's is the implication of having a starting price? Do you think that there will be opportunities in SP's far from market odds or that this will be a good way to close positions? Will this increase/decrease exchange liquidity, bid/ask spread, or volatility?

I really don't know the implications. I'm guessing that this will be introduced in high liquid markets only where i can already get the liquidity to get out.

Thanks for any info.

How do you find these matches with sp?

I don't think the sp will affect the market in any significant way

Real Madrid V Schalke for example. I don't know if there is any way to find markets with SP on the site.

Do you know if the SP's on the horses are efficient or if they go very far from the exchange odds at the off?

I think that by definition if you move some money away from the exchange to the SP's then the market depth on the exchange will be smaller.

sp prices are very close to the actual prices at the off , its an "efficient" market
soccer markets like the above are very large and are not affected at all by some thousands removed
I don't believe it is important

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
