Installing v65a and keeping configuration settings

Postby greenfingers » Thu Mar 11, 2010 12:38 pm

Hi, I just installed v65a and everything went back to the default settings. I uninstalled the beta version before doing the install. Should I have just installed v65a without doing the uninstall first in order to keep all of my settings?

I've done a system restore and have gone back to the beta version with all of my settings :D . I don't want to chance losing them again so I thought I'd ask first! :?:

It shouldn't have used new settings even if you uninstalled. I will look into it.

It's because I used a different product code in the set up project. It insists on having a separate settings file for each product code. I will change it to the same product code and upload a new installation file. I'll let you know when it's ready.

Great, thanks. Good to know the settings can be kept.

Sorry, it seems more complicated than I thought. I have been meaning for a while to enable the user to specify where the settings file is stored. This would allow you to copy the settings from one PC to another. I've finally found out how to implement this. I will introduce this into the Beta and official release. You will then be able to install the official release without fear of losing your settings. You will even be able to create a backup yourself.

It will be a few days before I can get this working.

No problem. That's going to be a good feature. Thanks a lot.

I've released Beta version 1.1.0.66a. Once you have run this version once it will migrate your settings to your documents folder. You can then install the official version 1.1.0.65b and it should retain your settings.

In later releases I will provide an option to specify where the settings are stored. The settings file is named Betting Assistant_settings.xml
You can take backup copies of this file and copy it onto other computers documents folders to use the same settings.

The quick link table is stored in a separate file named BA_Excel_Workbooks.txt also stored in your documents folder.

Unfortunately it only worked for the default profile, the other one I use went back to default settings.

I only opened the default profile in the beta software before uninstalling and installing the official release. Should I have opened the other profile in the beta software first?

You shouldn't have needed to. Multiple profiles worked during testing. Try re-installing the Beta then delete the settings file which will force the migration again. This time before installing the official version try the other profiles in the Beta version first and let me know if they work.

I did a system restore and ran the beta version and selected the other profile I use, the settings were all default. So it's the upgrade of the Beta version where the settings aren't transferred.

Do you want a copy of the original settings file?

Do you know where the original file is stored? It's quite tricky to find, but if you can find it then yes please send it to admin@gruss-software.co.uk and I can test the migration.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
