Actual Jump Time Notification/Warning

Postby mjworcester1988 » Mon Dec 16, 2013 1:23 pm

First post so be gentle!

Australian horse races are frequently delayed (probably on purpose to allow the mugs an extra 90 seconds to get from the bar to the TAB!).

This, coupled with the poor Betfair liquidity available on Australian markets, makes the scheduled jump time practically useless for triggered betting.

The result being that I have to watch every single race and wait for 300 years of selective breeding based on speed and not intelligence manifest itself in the calamity that is a group of malnourished, dehydrated midgets trying to force juiced-up, dumbed-down animals 10 times their size into a small cage. Notwithstanding the fact that each of these animals has entered a similar cage probably 100 times in their short life, the midgets rarely get the animal locked away on time.

Now no one can predict the actual start time hours or days ahead, however it would be extremely useful to me if I could be notified when, for instance, the first horse enters the the stalls, the second last horse enters, the last horse enters the stall, and maybe even lights on.

Are there any services available to notify me/BA of such events?

I petitioned Betfair (no extra cost to them as they have a bloke sitting there suspending markets/turning them inplay) but they politely declined (probably because I asked for 1,000,000 betfair points and 50% of all commissions earned in return for my great idea...).

I would happily pay for this service, but then I thought I would canvass Gruss for existing services or other potential users. If I pay $100 for a monkey to watch the races for me and sign up three Gruss users for $50 each then I will probably make more money than by actually using BA haha!

Anyone?

Understand your frustration especially when you have been working on a system and there are things you can not control and all you need for it to work is for them to work as expected.

Can i suggest you look at the problem, which i know you have, but is it going to change ?

Probably not

If you can't improve it or change it

Then change

It's easier on you :P

I always thought out of the 3 UK, USA and AUS horse racing the AUS stuff have the most reliable start times certainly for any bots I run they always seem to go very close to the scheduled off time.

I used to record the off vs scheduled time but haven't bothered for ages as there was little in it , if things have got worse they don't seem to affect my bots. There used to be a service in the UK but I think even they stopped due to lack of interest.

It's just one of those things with botting the horses that you always need to put as many failsafes into your coding as possible if everything's gonna run on auto otherwise they'll always be other bots out there waiting to pounce on any errors ;)

Spot on. I guess people will really take advantage on every chance that they see.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
